Proboards Vs Invision

Mm....ever since trying out both, I realised that Proboards is really not that good. With the upgrading thing that Proboards has done, it's even worse.

Proboards has more than 1 million members but Invision has more than 6 million. I think it's because Invision is better in many ways.

Comparing the two:

1) Invision has more stuff in place (maybe because it's older, I'm not sure) and is more complete overall. For people who don't know codes or are first-timers at building their own boards, Proboards is a better and easier choice. But for more flexibility in terms of rules and design, I think Invision is better.

As long as you know the codes to put in, Invision is more reliable and better overall. It's less user-friendly for first-timers or people who don't know codes. But those codes are pretty easy to get simply by asking the Invision support section or some other coding place.

2) Proboards is very picky about what can and cannot be put in boards. Rules everywhere. Invision is more relaxed I think.

3) Invision has more features than Proboards. For instance, there's the option of not putting "edited by" at the end of your post if you edit it. Makes the posts look cleaner. Plus, you can set up as many avatar galleries as you like for different themes like LOTR etc.

4) Proboards Support sections are much more active than Invision's in terms of help wanted and given. But I think Invision boards have fewer problems/bugs than Proboards. Invision support sections are mostly about "How to do this/that", rather than boards being hacked or deleted or other strange things.

5) Another thing which I was bothered about today when visiting Proboards Support was the age thing. There's a rule that says people under 13 will get a board deleted. One Proboards admin staff said that only the main admin of a board who is under 13 will get the board deleted while the regular members who are under 13 will just get their accounts deleted. So then, there's this board whose main admin is 30 years old, with 5th to 8th graders as members and the board got deleted anyway. In reply, a Proboards admin staff said that as long as there're members under 13, the board will get deleted.

So what's the deal here? *shakes head* I don't like one staff saying one thing and another staff saying another thing.

In the Proboards support section now, there're so many complaints, it's amazing. So many boards getting deleted for all kinds of reasons, things not working right, avatars having problems, members leaving boards because things are crazy, people saying that they hate the upgrade.

I think what Proboards should have done was introduce features of the upgrade slowly in steps rather than suddenly and all at once.

Mmm.....I think the teahouse is lucky since it was spared many of the bad things that affected other boards. Some admins were shut out of their boards after the upgrade. Posts disappeared, background went nuts, whole boards went missing/deleted etc.

I'm not happy with the upgrade myself.

First, there's the log-in box at the bottom of main page which I haven't been able to remove. The code worked at first but for some reason failed later.

Second, the page boxes. I prefer the old one where the page numbers were spread in a row.

Third, those extra information at the sides of the board and under the avatars. I prefer them to disappear.

Fourth, I can't stop the colours and border that appear around the main title every time I enter the teahouse. It takes a while before the colours and border disappear. This didn't happen before the upgrade and I haven't been able to fix it even with the codes.

Frankly, I'm disappointed with Proboards and the upgrade.

i've been to many different forum servers, made a forum in each and everyone i've been to. I'll have to agree with the Keeper...

Invision is heaps better than Proboards... actually, it's one of the ones i like the most. Well.. mainly cos the default emotions rock. ;D PLus it's easier to use, you can have an avatar bigger than 100x100 (depending on the settings the admin has done), and ... you can add skins better and easier.

So...I guess you've many forums everywhere, Shoe? Hahaha....but I heard that you prefer to join forums rather than create them.

Yeah, Invision's emoticons are cuter and nicer than Proboards' but I like Yahoo's. Hahaha.....wonder if Yahoo emoticons can be grabbed/stolen. There's very cute blushing emoticon that would be perfect for Shuichi. Hahaha!!!

Yeah, for Invision, avatar size can be as big as you like. Hahaha!!! Amazing. I heard that some members use such huge sizes that it's crazy. Hahaha!!!

Mm....for skins....in what way better and easier? I think it's about the same for Proboards and Invision. They both just need the url and it's up.

I still can't get rid of that color and borders thing that appear with the teahouse title every time I enter the site. It bothers me. Any solution? Or anything you can think of to get rid of it?

I created so many forums to get to know the server more. To find out which forums are easy to use and at the same time is good.

Proboard is simple to use, but ain't that good. Invision is easy to use and it is good. Jconserv forums are also really good, it's the emoticon's that let it down. haha. And Rapidforums, i never really liked it. Too hard, you need alot of knowledge about scripting and HTML tags. haha

Well, for Proboard, to make a skin is kinda hard. You know, different colours and stuff.. I am a lazy man, so i like to get the code and script for a skin, i dunno about proboards now.. but when i had it, it couldn't do that, where as Invision forums you could.

Oh, for this forum i like going to, the avatar size can go up to 200x200. Haha, it's cool.

Oh, yeah, that's a great idea to test the forum servers. That's the only way to find out whether they're good or not. So, are all your forums working and alive? And you're taking care of all of them??

Oh, I haven't come across those 2 forum servers you mentioned. Will check them out. For the emoticons, you can always replace them with others that you find online. So, it doesn't matter whether the servers come with good emoticons are not. Oh....Rapidforums sound complicated. Hmm....

Oh, so you don't like creating the skins yourself, and prefer to have the code and script ready made? Mm....I don't know about creating skins with codes for Proboards, but you can decide what colors you want etc. You mean you don't like choosing colors and stuff?

Mm.....I know Invision already has a default skin code which can be replaced with other skin codes. Mm...have you been to the section in the Support forums where there's a link to a site that generates skin codes for you? I guess there're many such skin generators around?

Well, the forums i created for each server.. i don't think they excist anymore. Hahaha, i never really used them. They are like a year old. so yeah. they must of been deleted.

yeah, i don't really like creating a skin, for me it seems like too much work. If i just copy the code and script of another skin then thats easy. Cos all i do is Copy and Paste. hahaha. It also tells you how to install the skin. It's pretty simple. I never knew how to install it untill i realised there was something about how to install it. haha I really should have checked before trying to install it myself. hahahaha

yeh, there are lots of sites with skins for invision forums. The site that i just posted up happens to be one of the best and easiest ones to find skins you may like.

Oh, that forum... It's Emma Watson Forums ... though right now it doesn't seem like an Emma Watson forum, more like a random spam forum. hahaha. It's currently going through the half yearly elections.

Oh, I think your forums should still be around. Just a year old. Maybe, you've even got visitors there. Hahaha!!! Usually if a forum is created, it should stay up until it's deleted by the admin. If you didn't delete the forums, they should still be around. Waiting for their master to come home. Hahahaha.....poor lonely forums. Do you still remember their URLs?

Yeah, I've just registered there to check out the skins you mentioned. Yeah, installing skins is very simple. Just cut and paste the codes into the CSS, headers and footers. What do you mean "there was something about how to install it"? You mean there's something special to it?

Mm, but I saw that some people had some difficulty installing the skins. Was quite surprised to see that staff from that site will help members install the skins if given admin password, board URL etc. Also, they will only help install if the skins are from the Skinzone only. Mm.....wonder why people couldn't install the skins. They said they tried but it didn't work. Hmm.....

Well, anyway, I saw most of the skins in the sections and feel that they're not cool or good enough. They all look the same with the same Invision basic design. Frankly, I feel they're boring. I want something different, something that doesn't look Invision Something that grabs and looks cool. Hahaha....so far, this one is quite good (under Themed skins): s7.invisionfree.com/testingskins64/index.php I like the interesting colors of the category backgrounds, but still, it's not good enough for me.

Oh yeah, what are Pips? I hear them mentioned and I've seen samples of them in Skinzone but still don't know what they are or what they're for.

Yeah, avatars are distracting when they are too big.. but thats the whole point of it. So when the next elections comes, which is in December, i will be able to make a large enough avatar which will say "Vote The_Shoe as the Moderator of the Year" haahaha. Good thing those people who create the skins are very clear about what goes where Which is why I wondered why there was difficulty in installing them.

It's easy and fun when all the codes are already there and you just have to copy and paste. Hahahaaha!!!! But it'll be like a template and not really customised. I guess for custom skins, we have to ask people for help in creating the effects etc. Troublesome.

Ohh.....hahaha....Poor Shoe. So nobody goes to your forum even when you try getting them. Mm....are they people you know at school? You should try getting people you don't know from other forums. Also, maybe have something fun and interesting that will make people stay.

For the teahouse, there's the unique wallpaper and weird categories. Hahaha....plus, it's about anime, so it's easier getting people to visit. For the Star of Destiny, there's no theme to it and this could be harder to get people interested. It was the same with Iron teahouse which had no theme. It became easier getting people to visit and stay when I changed it to Anime teahouse. Hahahaha.....

I like the name "Star of Destiny". How did you think of it? It has a very hopeful and magical quality.

The name Star Of Destiny comes from the Soul Calibur II OST. There is a song which i really like, it's called "Under the Star Of Destiny". Thats the opening theme to Soul Calibur II. SCII is a game incase you were wondering. hehe
