Hey guys!
Just a thread for you guys to let us all know what you have been reading lately, what was the last book you read, or if you would like to recommend any good books.
I discovered a passion for reading books last year... when i finally decided to finish The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Since then I've managed to read all of Dexter, Vol 1-2 of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Foundation, Wicked, Ender's Game, and YEAH~
At the moment I'm currently reading the Dark Tower series by Stephen King! It's amazing!!! Just finishing up vol 6 now, and should be starting vol 7, which is the last volume, before I go to bed tonight!

WHOAA! New Thread!! Cool, you discovered the joy of reading, Shoe! Whoaa... pretty heavy-going stuff LOTR & Hobbit. *thumbs up* Hitchhiker's Guide... I watched the new movie with the sighing robot on board the what's-the-name ship...? I only read the book Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul. ^_^ Funny, I enjoyed it. Foundation... you mean Issac Asimov's Foundation series? Ender's Game... sounds familiar... hmm... *thinks*... Ender's Game.. by... Raymond E. Feist? No.. doesn't seem right. The title sounds very familiar... OH! I remember. By Orson Scott Card. WHoooaa!! I remember!! Wicked... mm.. don't know this one. Is it new? Yeah, I heard Dark Tower series is good. But I think I read only a little. Why is it amazing? Loads of good books out there to recommend. It's just these few years... it seems a lot has happened even though I haven't really done anything. Haven't been reading as much as before. Great you're into books now, Shoe!

YES!! Issac Asimov's Foundation series! I only read the first volume! I loved it, but then I got really hooked on to The Dark Tower so i wanted to finish that then finish off Foundation.
Yeah! That Ender's Game! I really loved that book! I'm thinking of reading the rest of the series, and the Ender's Shadow series.
Well, I'm a big Stephen King fan, and the Dark Tower is like... his ultimate series. It ties in a few other books into that series... like 'Salem's Lot, Insomnia, The Stand, etc...
It's basically a story about a gunslinger on his journey to The Dark Tower, which Stephen King describes it as the tower that stands in the middle of every universe and dimension in existence, and on the top floor of the tower lives "God". There's a lot of people who want to destroy the tower and bring about the end of all existence and the main character wants to stop them all.
Wicked... it's by Gregory Maguire. The full name of the book is "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". Basically it tells the story of the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz, how she was born, her story through school and how she became evil...

Oh Fascinating stuff, this Dark Tower. Never knew what it's about or why people were so in love with the series. Just from your brief description... I wish to know more. Like how the main character intends to stop those who want to destroy the Tower. Yeah, another series that many people love is Foundation. Asimov wrote loads of other books that are great too. Mm.. although I didn't read Foundation, I read a few of his short stories and a novel (The Positronic Man). Oh, so Wicked is like a biography of the witch. Mm. I want to know how she became evil. You might be on a book chomping frenzy, Shoe. When books start looking so good... you grab one after another... and hug them to your chest. It can be pretty intense...

Oh yeah, totally!! I just love reading so much now!! I've got some books that I have ready to start reading once I finish the dark tower, foundation and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. I've got the magicians guild, dune, jurassic park, and this book by an Australian writer called "the seven ancient wonders". The title got me, and I heard pretty good reviews so yeah... Can't wait to read it.

AH HA! I was wondering when Dune was going to pop up! Sooner of later... you were going to say Dune. It's inevitable. Magician's Guild.. sounds familiar... Raymond E. Feist? *thinks*... I need to check this. *googles* ....Trudi Canavan?? *blinks, blinks* Jurassic Park. Mm hm.. you might be wanting more of Michael Crichton later. I have a series in mind to whisper to you.... but it just might drive you nuts... Maybe better not... until you've finished what you got. Seven Ancient Wonders... mm.. In the past, there were 7 ancient wonders of the world. I was forced to memorize them back when I was still a kid. Now I can only remember a few. I think some of the wonders already destroyed or replaced by other newer wonders. *googles* Seven Ancient Wonders by Matthew Reilly. Hmm.. fiction. Sounds exciting.

These are books I bought.
Hagakure is a book that entails the quotes of Yamamoto Tsunetomo, a Bushido extremist. It was not written by him, but after he became a monk, his conversations were recorded over a span of 10 years. The book pretty much critiques the samurai of his time compared to the samurai of legend, and explains how one should act as a samurai. The quotes are often popular, for example the book influences the main character of the movie "Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai".
I'm reading these books because I'm taking a History of Japan class at my university.
I am, but its always good to be manlier xD Its a very funny book.

Mm.. indeed you will.
Reading the Samurai ethos can be depressing, although it's understandable that they need this in order to go into battle. Still... it's a tragic pessimism to embrace. Many lives lost needlessly.
