Yesterday, the Teahouse Keeper discovered the joy of comics for the first time!!! Yes, I’m ashamed to say I’ve never been into comics at all.
Yesterday, somehow, it must have been Fate. I was at the Takashimaya mall for something else and it didn’t work out. So, left with nothing to do, I strolled over to the library without any thought of anything in particular.
The new arrival shelf caught my eye. There was a white paper stuck there that announced new comics titles at the comics section. Well, I simply strolled over...and there! There was most definitely [glow=yellow,5,500]Heaven[/glow]
So many wonderful brand new titles!!! Manga! In English! Translated! The very same titles that cost a pretty fortune just 2 floors below at Kinokuniya! Lupin III, Flame of Recca, Escaflowne, Trigun, Usagi Yojimbo (the samurai rabbit), Marmalade Boy...
I saw Buffy, Angel, Marvel superheroes, something called Bone, Prince Valiant, Shazam, The Five Stories, Spirit, odd and intriguing American titles that I’ve never seen...all new, all beauties.
As far as I know, the library has never carried these titles till now. Long live the Library!!
Thank goodness I was there early. The crowd started building up past 1 pm. The shelves were wiped out. Amazing.
Point of fact, the shelves were packed tight when I arrived before 1pm. When I left, the shelves looked as if a hurricane had come by, leaving scattered titles and wide open spaces. Wow.
I came to realize at that point, that Comics is big business. The kids were there, the parents and those in between. Absolutely fabulous. I spent 6 hours there and borrowed home 8 books. Couldn’t bring back any less--they were all too gorgeous to leave behind.
A day damn well spent! And damn well worth doing again!
Oh yes, Justarius, I tried looking for Neil Gaiman’s Sandman but couldn’t find it. Will try again.
