Hehehe!! Very beautiful movie from Hayao Miyazaki Got me to buy the vcd & dvd. In fact, I bought a lousy pirated vcd before buying the good licensed one, thinking that it'd be ok & I was hungry for a re-watch. But it wasn't ok! Pirated one wasn't that cheap & the quality was bad...could see that it was taken off from inside the cinema somewhere....Hmph.

Strange thing was, the pirated one was sold in a good store in a mall where it wasn't supposed to be sold at all! *shakes head* Was surprised the store would ruin its name by selling such pirated stuff. Hahaha....

The movie is actually based on the book by Diana Wynne Jones, called Howl's Moving Castle. There's also the sequel called Castle In The Air but (flipping through) doesn't seem to have any Howl in it....I borrowed the 2 books recently from the public library. But haven't read of course. Hehehe.....

Ahhh....Howl....what a sexy handsome fellow..... Love the way his earrings sound when he moves. Sexy tinkle of gems. Very powerful wizard, sexy......hehehehehe....sexy.... *crooked smile*

In some ways, Howl's Moving Castle is similar to Spirited Away, especially the way old Sophie is drawn....looks like Yubaba/Zeniba. And music by Joe Hisaishi...sounds about the same as Spirited, but still beautiful, of course.

Mm....I bought the soundtrack some time back too. Hahaha.....meaning Howl really got to me coz I never buy soundtrack, vcd & dvd for a movie. Ever.

Ahh...I just finished watching my dvd extras & discovered that Howl's was also shown in America last year, English dubbed, Pixar/Disney/Miyazaki collaboration. John Lasseter who helped with Spirited Away wanted to help with the translation & stuff but couldn't coz too busy. So, the job was passed to Pete Doctor at Disney.

Was surprised to find that they picked Christian Bale for the voice of Howl. Pete Doctor said there wasn't an American archetype like Howl who is kinda effeminate. So, somehow, they felt Christian Bale fit the role. Hahahaha.....And then the voice of Sophie was played by 2 persons even though in the Japanese version it's only voiced by 1 (Chieko Baisho). For Witch of the Waste, it's Lauren Bacall. Hahahahaha!! And Calcifer is voiced by none other than Billy Crystal. No surprise there.

The American dvd version will be out in March this year.

Yeah, somehow similar to Spirited Away coz in Howl's, Howl is a bird and Sophie wants to save him and in Spirited Away, Haku is dragon and Chihiro wants to save him too.

Yeah, the love theme is the same for both movies. Same idea of girl saving boy and at the point of sexual....awakening/discovery. Growing up time. At the age when the girl starts learning the meaning of love for the opposite sex even though Chihiro is still pretty young at 9 (while Sophie is older).
