My personal favourite is still the first one: Kaze no tani no nausicaa (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds). It has a great storyline, and the score is extremly haunting (especially the bit with the child's voices).
All of the others are also good though, but I dislike the realistic ones not directed by Hayao Miyazaki. One of them, Hotaru no Haka (Grave of the fireflies) is so sad that I could only stomach watching it once, though I wouldn't deny that it's a very poignant piece about war, regardless of whether you are the defender or the aggressor.

Depends on what sort of sadness. ;-) I prefer anime to be fantastical pieces, and not tied to reality. Thus giant robots, flying witches, talking cats, swordwielding and magic using people are my type of things. I don't like shonen/shojo happy clappy campus types (I can't stomach Hana Yori Dango), or animes based on reality.

Yeah! Saw it! That was my fourth time watching it :)But there were so many adverts that by the time the movie ended, it was close to 2 am...whoa, I was so sleepy that the movie became slightly fuzzy...Next morning, it was as if I had dreamt the whole thing. Hahaha. Wonder why they broadcast the movie at such a late hour--how are the kids supposed to stay up for it??

I love them all, but I think Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (ç‚Æçq‚Ì_‰B‚µ) Spirited Away Is my favorite one I guess. I even cried. But then again I guess I'm a cry baby when it comes to moving moments in films *blush* it's always so embarrising. Since I mean boys shouldn't do such things >__< baka me Hehe Shuichi

Spirited Away was also really good. But what I really want to see is NausicaA! My Uncle said it was really good.
