Mm. Disappointing, coming from Steven Spielberg. The filming techniques, scenes and effects are excellent, as they should be coming from a master filmmaker and storyteller. But the story is just flat and disappointing.
I keep wanting and waiting for more and it never comes. It's more about Tom Cruise (Ray) not being a good father to his kids, rather than the war between Aliens and Earthlings. There's really no war and the ending is nothing much.
I was expecting more like Independence Day which I think is better and more exciting.
Stuff are unexplained in War Of The Worlds and the ending felt as if there was lack of time or budget to complete it properly and meaningfully.
Mm.....don't know about you guys who watched it (if you watched it), but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Not worth the cash.
Mm....enjoyed some parts though. Like the lightning strikes at the same spot, the machines emerging from the road.....very cool and amazing. Quite a few dream-like parts, like the bodies floating down the river and especially the part at the ferry where everyone's trying to escape and they're playing an oldies song.
Most beautiful part for me, would be the night scene where everyone gets vaporized and clothes gently fall down from the sky into the forest. Beautiful and dream-like, although horrifying and morbid. Actually, come to think, that scene kinda reminds me of dream-like scenes in Empire Of The Sun (also by Spielberg). Mm....can't exactly remember which scenes in Empire Of The Sun, but I remember it had the same kind of dream-like and morbid quality for many of its scenes.
Saw War Of The Worlds on opening day yesterday 29th The trailer said "Opens 29th June Everywhere". Hahaha.....
