As a result of watching too many anime, I have been wondering what Japan is really like. Never been there before. Do the seiyuus come out of their recording studios to buy food/snacks? What if I met one of my favourite seiyuus there? Imagine...I'm at the cashier paying for something when a Japanese man in front of me speaks to the cashier...his voice sounds so familiar...where have I heard it before? Sounds like...like...Oh my god...It's Kazuhiko Inoue!!!

I've never been to Japan, but it is definetly something on my to-do list. My uncle has traveled there many times. He's actually the person who first introduced me to anime and manga.
About two days ago, there was a special on the travel channel about Japan. Its very interesting to see the mix of old tradition and new tradition being lived at the same time! There were people in old fashioned kimonos and shoes as well as people in very wild costumes! It definetly makes where I live look oh so very plain. I've tried Japanese food and most of it is pretty delicious!
Yes, oh yes..Id definetly LOVE to go there. It would be interesting to try foreign exchange!

BlackGrail, you've 2 Japanese friends?? Oh, I'm so happy. Please ask them to come here!! How did you meet them? Many years ago, I used to have plenty of pen pals. One of them was a Japanese girl who was really nice. We sent each other gifts and she would give me cute little stuff. Once, she gave me a long calendar anime poster which is still hanging on my wall today

Ah...well, usually with pen pals, it's not forever. Some last a while, others for years, but still not very long. My last pen pal was from Sweden and our friendship lasted about 7 years. When we first started, she had a boyfriend and by the time we finished, she already had a very young daughter The kid should be quite big by now. As for the Japanese girl...one day, she just decided not to write and that was that She didn't tell me, but when I didn't hear from her, that was it. At first, I used to be annoyed when pen pals did that, but I soon got used to it. Normally, pen pals will suddenly break off without saying anything. Sometimes, I'm the one who breaks it off but I always tell them why. After the Swedish friend, I didn't want to start all over with new pen friends again. It's not easy to begin at the beginning with someone new after 7 years of old friendship. I felt tired and didn't want to go through the whole introductory process again. At first, it was the stamps that got me interested in pen pals. I collected stamps and getting pen friends was a great way to get stamps from all over the world Then, gradually, it wasn't just about stamps anymore because I enjoyed writing to my pen friends, getting to know about them and their countries. I had pen pals from Greece, Malta, Malaysia, Hungary, Russia, Thailand, Japan, China, Sweden, England, France, US, Australia. I'm still secretly hoping to find pen pals in Greenland, South and North Poles A yukatta? Is it the outfit/outer robe that Japanese men wear? Or is it like a kimono? Yeah, looks like many of us here want to go to Japan! Maybe, we'll pool our cash and go together some day?

ARGHHH!!!! You've been to Tokyo?! When?! Ah, I'm so envious! You got to see all those lovely anime stuff, even though prices were crazy! Yeah, it's VERY disappointing when you don't have enough cash when shopping in another country. I know. It happened to me and I ended up borrowing from a friend who was kind enough to lend me. I mean, after all, who knows when you'll be back in that country, right? So, whatever you want, you'd better grab. Hey, what were the Tokyo people like (Tokyoians )? Were they nice and friendly? Could they speak a little English at least? Was Tokyo good? Did you have fun?

Oh! It's great to hear that the Japanese people are nice and friendly I was afraid they would be proud and unfriendly to visitors who can't speak their language. Actually, 3 Japanese guys came here a few days ago to talk about anime. It was a symposium called AniMaxtion and they were really humourous people, very warm and friendly!! I was really surprised! It was a great privilege to meet them...one of them was the director of Fruits Basket, Daichi Akitaro. Another was the manager Kawaguchi Noritaka and finally, the producer of more than 90 anime, Yoshiro Kataoka. Using an English translator, they talked about their latest anime releases, "Japan" and "Grrl Power". So, you speak Japanese? Have you been to other parts of Japan?

Oh! That's lucky! Whoa, your cousin lives there!!! How long has she been in Japan? Yeah, from what I've seen in Japan Hour (the food documentary ), Japan is huge. It's amusing to see Japanese people who live in Tokyo behave like tourists when they visit different parts of their own country. In a way it's good because they don't have to visit other countries for their holidays and everybody speaks Japanese everywhere So, which part of Japan do you plan on visiting when you go again?

My new english teacher was just transfered here to Puerto Rico from Japan. She used to teach in Kyoto. She talks to us in Japanese sometimes, and no one understands. I only understand a few words myself . She compares us to them alot, she says they learn alot faster than we do.

I've been to Japan! I was there for six weeks over the last summer...it was amazing! Kyoto was such a cool place. It was like a nature perserve with temples right next to a city...it waas so cool! I was in a little place just south of Tokyo called Misakiguchi prefecture. I shopped for a lot of manga in Tokyo...for the manga are like, 3 dollars in japan (300 or so yen) I got so much there. Then there are the used manga shops....100 yen per comic...talk about cheap. But the dvds and cds are so much more expencive T___T

Ahhhhhh......Arashi, you're soooo lucky *sighs in envy* You even went to Kyoto and actually did so much shopping!!! Manga in Tokyo cost only US$3 ?! I didn't know they had used manga shops Yeah....I like Kyoto because I heard of it's historical flavour and temples I love temples. What about the food, Arashi?? Yummy? Cheap?? Hahaha....Krizia, your teacher sounds like she likes Japan so much. But I prefer she didn't make comparisons because it's not fair to everybody, especially to the students she is now teaching. I think she probably misses Japan since she just arrived. That's probably why she lapses into Japanese even though you guys don't understand. Your teacher taught in Kyoto? Hmm....very interesting. I wonder what teaching in Kyoto is like? Chateaubriand, let's pack our bags and go to Kyoto!!!

~random Gravitation quote~ "I am a piece of luggage! I do not need a passport! You are disrespecting the luggage's owner!!!" -Shuichi The food was awsome. It's moderately priced, and oh so delicious! Also, the pesticides and stuff that goes into American food all the time are banned in Japan, so its good for people too. One of my favorite places to go to was the conveyer-belt sushi places that have sushi going around the room on a moving belt, and the prices are determined by the color of the plate. It was so fun to watch the yummyness float by. n__n My other favorite foods were yaki-soba, ramen, and ku-ri n___n *laughs* woot

Hide in my luggage, Chateaubriand?? Then I'll book a single room and you can sleep in the drawer After that, we'll go sightseeing with you in my bag Yes!! Let's go now!!! Ahahaha....Arashi, you read Gravitation too!! Yeah, Shuichi miraculously squeezed himself into a luggage bag and tried to get on a plane. Oh....the conveyor belt sushi. Yeah, we have that here too. What about the native special delicacies? Any special food that you tried? How did Kyoto's food taste? How about desserts? Did you eat those round balls on a stick? Ooops...Krizia! Your teacher was just behind?! Luckily, I didn't say anything bad. Hahaha...Hi Krizia's teacher! ;D Mmmm? You're in the military? *blinks* You mean you get cheaper air tickets if you buy from the base?

The base pays for all of our travels. As long as theres a useful purpose behind it. I cant just say I want to go to so and so place just because.

Useful purpose? 1) The incense from a temple there is driving me crazy in Puerto Rico 2) I need to breathe Kyoto air now or I'll roll up and die 3) I promise not to blow up the base.
